New Homeland Security Secretary

According to the DHS press release yesterday, Kristjen M. Nielsen has been sworn in as the sixth secretary in the young agencies history.  Nielsen, a close colleague of Kelly’s, previously served on the Homeland Security Council in the George W. Bush administration and developed domestic policy with the TSA.

Ms. Nielsen area of expertise seems to be focused on the arena of cyber security. She was a senior fellow at the George Washington University’s Center for Cyber and Homeland Security. According to GWU, her area of expertise are:

• Homeland and national security policy and strategy development
• Critical infrastructure security and resilience, including cyber security
• Enterprise risk assessment and management
• Emergency preparedness and response

An article in Politico describes Ms. Nielsen as one of the “hardest working people they have ever met” who has been annoying to many members of the Trump team with her rigid style. Either way, she has the credentials and experience to run the agency, so let us she how she handles herself.
